Why go to your reunion?

The main reason to go is that you'll probably have a good time. Honest. Typically, the older the attendee the more they enjoy the reunion. You are embraced by classmates you have known for at least 50 years. You tell story after story, take photo after photo, have hug after hug. When you leave, you are aglow with something pretty profound, deeply bonding, almost tribal. That’s what 50th High School Reunions are all about. So, don't miss yours. Beavers Forever!

I can't believe I'm having so much fun!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Let’s Get Together for the Say Adios Lunch

Sunday, October 20 at 11:30AM

Complete your 50th Year Reunion Weekend by enjoying a bittersweet celebration at a colorful Scottsdale landmark, Los Olivos Patio, at 7328 East 2nd Street.

Together, share a unquely beautiful dining room in a restaurant where food and prices are always great. Give a toast to one another's health, laugh about last night, blink away a tear or two, knock back a margarita and enjoy delicious Corral Family comida Mexicana.

The Say Adios Lunch was conceived as a chance to celebrate lasting friendships by classmate Suzie Shull, a reunion committee member who tragically passed away last month. Now, beyond celebrating friendships, we thought the lunch a great opportunity to also celebrate the vitality, love, support and generosity of classmates no longer with us.

I'm Free
I could not stay another day,
to laugh, to love, to work or play.
If my parting has left a void,
then fill it with remembered joy,
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
ah yes, these things, I too, shall miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
For my life's been full, I savored much.
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.

 Dear Scottsdale High School Classmates,

We are truly saddened to inform you of the sudden passing of our beloved classmate, Suzie Shull Hammond, who died last week in a tragic accident. Just as she did in high school, during our planning of the 50th High School Reunion, Suzie provided the team with much needed laughter and some truly creative ideas. The unexpected loss of her inimitable vitality, sense of fun and determination took our breath away. We are still in disbelief.

For those many classmates who kept a close friendship with her, perhaps lasting more than 50 years, our condolences. We are aware of your pain, personal sadness and sense of loss.

Below is an Obituary that Suzie’s family sent our way, to share with us all. Suzie’s husband Russ, as well as the rest of her family, were aware of and lovingly sensitive to our desire to keep Suzie in our hearts throughout the reunion.  Suzie’s memorial will be in California on the same date as our reunion.

Obituary:

Susan Shull Hammond, beloved wife, daughter, Gram, stepmom, sister, aunt, friend and teacher passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019.  Born April 24, 1951, Susan spent her youth in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she graduated from Scottsdale High School in 1969.  She then graduated from San Diego State University and later obtained her Master’s in Education Degree from Walden University.  She loved her teaching career in the San Juan Unified School District, where she made many friends. Travel, golfing, gardening, fitness and volunteering with CalRTA brought her much joy during her retirement. She had a wonderful heart and loved everyone she met.  Her vibrancy and passion for life were unrivaled.  We will miss her dearly.

Peace to you and to Suzie’s family and friends; to all those who shared in Suzie’s life journey.

Your 1969 Scottsdale High School Reunion Team
